Surface Area Dance Theatre Returns To NYC to perform Flowering Moon

14 June 2010

Surface Area will return to New York this Summer to perform in the Movement Research at Judson Church Program. The program is a  high visibility forum on Monday nights throughout the fall/winter and spring seasons. Movement Research at the Judson Church supports experimental work from national and international artists.

Nicole Vivien Watson will be creating a new piece of work on principle dance artist Molly Hodkinson who will be performing in NY with Surface Area for the second time following the 2009 performance of Girl Dances. The piece will be created in residency at Dance City beginning 24th May.

David Nuss and Mico will be once again collaborating with SADT and are two of the founding members of No Neck Blues Band, which can be described as a long experiment in improvisational sound, operating at the edge of performance and art. Previous collaborations with members of No Neck Blues Band include, Yacho No Mori (UK, April 2008) and Girl Dances (NYC, September 2008).

This experience will be the opportunity to engage with an international audience, in relation to personal and creative development this project will be highly significant. Surface Area Dance Theatre remains open to understanding and appreciating alternative dance cultures, our company strives to broaden pathways by developing an in depth understanding of international dance culture. This investment and understanding will enrich the work of the company by empowering our knowledge of dance and therefore our ability to communicate to a wider and more diverse audience.

Movement Research at Judson Church has been curated by Raquel Cavalcanti, Ursula Eagly, Alex Escalante, Daria Faïn, Will Rawls &  Makeda Thomas.
