Reparation

11 May 2011

Castle Keep, Newcastle upon Tyne

Reparation is a culmination of research, collective discussion, shared motivation and choice, expressing through creative movement and improvised music, the physical representation of self-conscious social emotions such as guilt and shame, placed in correlation to that of primal emotions such as fear and anger. The work created can be described as an illuminated proximity of emotion, untrammeled and performed on impulse with freedom. Reparation was performed in the chapel of the Castle Keep, Newcastle upon Tyne, built by Henry II between 1168 -1178; it is one of the finest surviving examples of a Norman Keep in the country.

This the fourth collaborative work created by Surface Area Dance Theatre - UK, Mico and David Nuss of No Neck Blues Band - NYC.

With very special thanks to The Castle Keep, Newcastle City Council – The Newcastle Fund, Joe Price, Floor Five at Norham House and Dance City.
