The concept of Yacho No Mori is derived from a culmination of research and creative intuition.
Company members returned from a research and development period to Japan, revisiting Yoshito Ohno to participate in Butoh workshops and to explore the traditional art form of Noh Theatre. Yacho No Mori is a response to the findings in Japan and an opportunity to form connections with New York's No Neck Blues Band, who over the years have also developed an inspired affiliation with Japanese mythology and story telling.
“For Surface Area the work begins and ends with an internal view that every creature withholds a sense of self. When the thresholds of self consciousness are unrestrained then it’s possible to resonate with the world”
(Nicole Vivien Watson).
Yacho no Mori will explore the importance of interaction in social spaces. The choice to create and perform the work in the Head of Steam has come from the ambition to research the meaning of a social space and how important interactions in these spaces are to communities.
